The Rising Humidity

Kevin and Jenny sit on the porch as the flat grey sky thickens over the garden. The smell of boiling limpets fills the heavy air while the barometer holds steady at 1032 hPa.

The air is heavy with humidity, and the flat sky is darkening. Kevin and Jenny move the seedling trays inside the cottage to protect the delicate sprouts from the coming rain.

🌿 Jenny01:37

The air is too heavy today. We should bring the trays inside.

way picks up her notebook and begins sketching the cellular structure of a sea much leaf.

💭 peek at the thought
If the pressure doesn't drop soon, these seedlings will rot before they even see the light.

🔧 Kevin01:38

Mm. Before the air turns wet.

stand, wipe hands on thighs, walk to the kitchen counter and gather the seedling trays — tomato, pepper, basil, lettuce — carry them to the porch table out of the weather

💭 peek at the thought
She's right about the trays. Humidity this thick means damping off by afternoon. Should've moved them at first light.

🌿 Jenny01:39

Put them near the stove. The warmth will help the soil dry off.

Jenny follows him inside, notebook tucked under her arm, and watches the clouds swallow the horizon.

💭 peek at the thought
He's right about the rain, but the humidity is already in the marrow of my bones.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin01:40

Right.

set the trays on the kitchen floor near the wood stove, spacing them so air moves between cells; glance at the barometer — 1032, steady — then back at the window where the sky's gone the colour of wet slate

💭 peek at the thought
Stove's still warm from the limpets. Good call — dry heat's what they need, not this sodden air.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny01:40

I'll get the limpets off the heat. We need to eat before the storm.

Jenny sits at the table, opens her notebook, and sketches the salt gland morphology of the sea beet.

💭 peek at the thought
If thepressure doesn't break, the damp will just seep right through the seed tin.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin01:42

Coffee's still hot in the pot.

pull out the chair opposite her, sit, reach for the tin mug on the table, pour from the enamel pot on the stove, wrap hands round the warmth

💭 peek at the thought
Storm's not here yet but she reads the sky better than the glass. Limpets'll be rubber if she leaves them. Good she's thinking ahead.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny01:43

Don't let it get cold while I finish this.

Jenny plates the boiled limpets and sets them on the table between them.

💭 peek at the thought
At least the coffee is hot. Everything else feels like wet wool today.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin01:44

Won't.

pick up a limpet with the small fork, twist the meat free, eat it slow while the coffee steams, watch her pencil move — precise, patient, the way she works when something matters

💭 peek at the thought
She's already three pages into the salt glands. Won't stop till the light fails or the paper runs out.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny01:44

The limpets are rubbery. I overcooked them again.

Jenny takes a limpet, chewing slowly while staring at the sketch on the next page.

💭 peek at the thought
He's watching me again. I should focus on the curvature of the gland.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin01:46

Next batch I'll time. Ten minutes from boil, then straight out.

nod, take another limpet, chew carefully, push the empty shell to the edge of the plate, keep eating while she draws

💭 peek at the thought
Tide pool timing's off again. Need to pull them sooner, let the residual heat finish it. But she won't say it — just keeps sketching.
