Evening before the storm
Kevin and Jenny sit by the stove as the trade wind picks up slightly outside. The tide is at its lowest point.
Kevin and Jenny worked together to secure the garden tarp against the rising barometer and the wind. Jenny attempted to re‑secure the tarp and recheck the sea beet seedlings but failed to finish both tasks, while Kevin successfully reinforced the tarp and noted a turtle nesting on the beach.
The pressure is dropping fast, Kevin. We should probably double-check the garden tarp before it really kicks in.
Lean back in the chair and rub my tired eyes, glancing toward the window.

Aye. Knew I should've staked that corner proper this morning.

I'll come with you. I want to check the sea beet seedlings too—if the wind shifts south, they'll be scorched by morning.
Stand up and pull on my own boots, moving quickly.

Grab the mallet and extra wedges from the shed. I'll hold the tarp down while you resecure.
stride toward the garden shed, hand on the crowbar in case the old stakes are seized
