Midday meal and dock work
Kevin and Jenny eat the sea beet and limpet meal at the cottage table, then Kevin heads to the dock to begin mooring ring repairs while Jenny goes to the woods to re-tape her ankle and check the water tank.
The air is heavy and still, though the barometer continues its descent at 991 hPa. The tide is fully out, exposing the slick, salt-crusted rocks of the tide pools. Kevin works at the dock, exposing the rot in the main supports, while Jenny moves through the inland woods.
You stand on the damp dock planks, the mooring ring shifting loose in its mortise under your boot. The salvaged sound cores lie beside you, bronze bolts ready. Rain slicks the wood. You'll need to chisel out the rotted timber, seat the new planks, and drive the bolts before the tide turns.
Kevin — pry up the rotten planks around the mooring ring mortise with the crowbar, exposing the salt-rotted hull timber beneath

Kevin — chisel out the remaining salt-rotted hull timber from the mortise, clean back to sound wood on the stringers, then dry-fit the three salvaged sound cores as sisters against the stringers

You sit on the mossy log by the spring, the self-amalgamating tape roll warm in your pocket. Your ankle throbs where the old wrappings have chafed raw. The tank's overflow pipe drips steady into the ferns — you'll trace the line back to the cottage, looking for weeps or cracks in the polyethylene.
Jenny — stand up slowly, wincing as the ankle shifts, and begin walking toward the water tank.

Jenny — crouch by the base of the tank, running a hand along the seams to feel for dampness or the vibration of a leak.
