Midday work divides
Kevin is at the cottage, frustrated by the seized prop shaft. Jenny is in the woods, gathering firewood and checking the garden tarp corners.
Kevin inspects the barometer and notes the steady drop in pressure as the air grows heavy. Jenny spends the afternoon in the woods checking for fallen branches to weather the approaching storm. The heat remains oppressive and still as the tide continues to recede.
You sit on the cottage step with the Yanmar's prop shaft soaked in penetrating oil, waiting for it to work. The dinghy rocks at the dock, engine mounted but dead in the water. You're out of ideas short of heat, and the supply boat comes tomorrow.
Kevin — walk down to the dock, check the shaft one more time, try the drift and hammer again

Kevin — wedge the drift against the flange, swing the three-pound hammer — steady, measured blows, working around the circumference

Christ.
walk back to the cottage, fetch the propane torch and striker, grab the fire blanket from the galley shelf

You move through the woods with the wheelbarrow, gathering fallen branches that the wind has dried. The garden tarp corners held through the night, but you want to check the stakes again before the storm. The air smells of salt and coming rain.
Jenny — push the wheelbarrow toward the cottage to check the garden stakes.
