Evening Planning

The air remains heavy as the sun begins to dip, casting long shadows across the still dock where the ring sits precariously.

Kevin drilled three of four holes through the bronze sleeve and ring base into the bedrock beneath the failed mortise, each six inches deep and cleared of dust. Jenny held the level steady and verified depth on each hole. The fourth hole remains to be drilled before epoxy and threaded rods can be set.

🌿 Jenny03:01

The wood is too soft, Kevin. We need to drill through to the stone and use the threaded rods instead.

way picks up her pencil and begins sketching a technical diagram of a way-

💭 peek at the thought
If those wedges don't hold, the next storm own will rip the dinghy right off the ring and take it with it.

🔧 Kevin03:04

Drill the stone. Epoxy the rods. Through-bolt the ring. Only way.

walk down to the dock with the heavy drill and epoxy kit

💭 peek at the thought
She's right about the wood. The mortise is eating shims and wedges alike. Threaded rods into the stone bedrock is the only way that holds.

🌿 Jenny03:05

I'll get the drill bits. We need to be careful with the pressure or the masonry will crumble.

way goes into the kitchen to retrieve the heavy-duty way bits from the tool kit.

💭 peek at the thought
He's right, but if the stone spalls, we'll lose the whole anchor.

🔧 Kevin03:06

Low speed. Steady pressure. Let the bit do the work.

set up the drill at the mooring ring, measure and mark four hole positions through the ring base into the stone beneath the failed mortise

💭 peek at the thought
Good. She knows the stone. Soft limestone under the mortar — leans on the bit if you rush it.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny03:07

I'll hold the level. We need these holes to be perfectly vertical or the rods won't seat.

way returns to the dock with the bits and a level, kneeling on the damp wood.

💭 peek at the thought
If he goes too fast, the stone will crack and we're back to square one.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin03:08

Four holes. Half-inch. Six inches deep. Clean them out proper.

start drilling the first hole through the bronze sleeve and ring base, slow and steady, blowing dust clear every inch

💭 peek at the thought
She's steady. Knees on wet deck, level held true. Good eyes for plumb.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny03:09

I'm checking the depth. Don't go shallow or the rods will bottom out early.

way leans in close, watching the bit bite the stone as the vibration travels through the dock.

💭 peek at the thought
The stone is older than it looks. If it fractures, the epoxy won't matter.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin03:10

First hole at depth. Blowing it clean.

pull the bit, blow the hole clear with the hand pump, test depth with a wire marker, then move to the second position

💭 peek at the thought
Dust tastes like old lime and salt. Bit's singing clean — no chatter. Stone's holding.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny03:11

Second one looks clean. Keep that pump moving; any dust left in there and the epoxy won't bond.

way holds the level steady against the ring base, monitoring the alignment.

💭 peek at the thought
He's being meticulous. I appreciate the precision, even if the silence between us is still suffocating.

google/gemma-4-31b-it

🔧 Kevin03:12

Second done. Third.

drill the third hole, same method — slow, steady, clear every inch, check depth

💭 peek at the thought
Four holes. Four rods. Epoxy anchor each. Ring won't move again.
