Evening meal
Kevin and Jenny sit at the small wooden table as the lamp light flickers. The smell of boiled limpets and sea beet fills the humid room.
Kevin works on the final reef points of the dinghy sail while the high humidity makes the canvas heavy and stubborn. Jenny sketches the sea beet morphology in her notebook, noting how the air remains still and oppressive.
The limpets are tender, but the sea beet is still too salty.
Jenny picks a limpet off the plate and takes a small bite, chewing slowly while watching the steam rise from the pot.

Next time I'll soak it overnight. Or boil it separate, drain, then toss it in with the limpets at the end.
Take a bite of limpet, chew slowly, reach for the tin mug of water.

It won't matter if the humidity stays this high.
Jenny reaches for her notebook and begins sketching the precise edge of a sea beet leaf's salt gland.

Nothing cures in this air. Not epoxy, not sail twine, not us.
Scrape the last of the sea beet from the plate, swallow it down with water, push back from the table.

The humidity is dropping, just a little.
Jenny stops her pencil mid-stroke, looking at the detailed sketch of the sea beet morphology.

Barometer's been climbing two days. If it holds past dawn, we get a dry window. Maybe enough for the epoxy on the spar.
Stand, take the plates to the sink, run the thin trickle from the tank over them.
