The Rising Tide
The tide reaches the base of the garden wall as the first heavy drops of rain hit the cottage shutters.
Kevin checked the water tank inlet for debris and inspected the garden wall for shifting stones as the tide rose. Jenny gathered the heirloom seeds from the porch and laid them out on paper towels to inspect them for damage.
Jenny, the tide’s at the wall and rain’s starting. I’m going to check the overflow pipe and make sure the tank inlet’s clear.
walk to the rain tank, inspect the overflow pipe for blockages, then check the inlet screen and clear any debris.

Check the mesh too. I'll move the seeds inside before the wind catches them.
Jenny picks up the rusted seed tin from the porch and carries it to the kitchen table.

Mesh first. Then I'll check the wall footing.
pull the inlet screen from the tank, rinse it off in the bucket by the back door, and reinstall it; then walk along the garden wall base where the tide is lapping, checking for any new undermining or shifted stones.

Be careful on the rocks, they're slick as glass.
Jenny opens the rusted tin and begins laying the heirloom seeds onto a dry paper towel.

I’ll tread slow. Screen’s clean and back in.
walk carefully along the tide-washed base of the garden wall, probing with the toe of my boot for any give or washed-out stones, then return to the tank and verify the overflow pipe is still clear and draining freely.

Come back inside, the wind is picking up.
