Morning low tide at the dock
Grey dawn finds them at the dock, tide still low. Kevin has the two 150mm stainless through-bolts, the heavy wrench, and the torque wrench set to 35Nm. Jenny carries the spade and the seed in her pocket. The mortise waits, the oak wedges having split yesterday. The garden tarp flaps once in the cold breeze.
Kevin tested the Yanmar engine on the dinghy under load, noting a faint vibration above half throttle. Jenny worked in the garden, planting the single heirloom seed from her grandmother's tin despite the rain.

It's tight. Don't move it.
Jenny traces the edge of the seed in her pocket, feeling the small hardness against her hip.

Good. Slack tide's in twenty. We'll take the dinghy out then.

I'll have the garden ready when we get back.
Jenny picks up the spade and walks toward the half-weeded patch behind the cottage.

Be careful with the prop.
Jenny kneels in the damp earth, pulling the rusted tin from her pocket.
