The Eye of the Storm
The wind begins to howl through the gaps in the shutters, and the small trickle from the leak becomes a steady stream. The tide is at its lowest point.
Kevin and Jenny addressed the leaking cottage shutter by placing a bucket under the drip and securing a tarp over the breach from inside, then logged the barometer reading and checked the generator fuel level.
Kevin, the bucket. The leak is getting worse.
Stand up with a wince, place a pot under the drip, move the seed tin away from the table.

Got it.
grab the galvanized bucket from the porch and set it under the stream, then pull the spare tarp and batten strips from the shed to cover the breach from inside

Watch the edge of the tarp. It's pooling through the lath.
Move the seed tin to the high shelf above the stove, far from the draft.

On it.
unfold the spare tarp fully, tuck the leading edge under the ridge beam and batten it down with the spare timber strips, weighting the overlap with the heavy tool bag so wind can't lift it

Check the weight again in an hour. The wind is shifting.
Sit back down, rubbing my throbbing ankle, and watch the water ripple in the bucket.

Will do.
log the barometer reading (975 hPa, rising slow) and the leak location in the notebook, then check the generator fuel level and top off the day tank while the roof holds
