The Pressure Drops
Kevin and Jenny stand on the porch as the barometer needle shows a steady drop to 1004 hPa. The air is heavy and still under the overcast clouds, with no wind to speak of.
Kevin spends the morning carving the spruce garden fork and testing the dinghy engine under load. Jenny heads to the shrine to carve a message into a piece of driftwood while the tide remains low.
Pressure's falling. Wind's due to back southwest by nightfall. Need to drop the mast and run a second stern line before the tide turns.
walk to the dock, check the dinghy's mooring lines and mast step

Mast's forty pounds wet. Winch is for the engine.
unstep the spruce mast, lay it along the dinghy's thwarts, lash it down with sail twine

Just make sure it's secure. I don't want to lose the spar in the surf.
walk to the lime beds, kneel, and press the probe into the damp earth.
