The Storm Breaks
Kevin and Jenny are together inside the cottage as the first heavy drops of rain hit the tin roof. The wind begins to howl through the eaves, testing the storm shutters.
Kevin checked the stove seal and lit the storm lantern while Jenny clutched the seed tin at the window. Both moved to secure the cottage against the approaching storm, Kevin tightening windward shutter bolts as the wind rose.
Force 7 by midnight, she said. Reckon she's early.
