The Turning Tides

The first cold drops of rain begin to hit the dust as the tide starts to creep back in, threatening to submerge the exposed pools and put immediate stress on the new repairs.

The brutal heat lingers heavy over the dock as the tide rises against the pilings. Kevin monitors the structural integrity of the dock while Jenny manages the drying heirloom seeds in the shade. The air remains still and shimmering, despite the drop in atmospheric pressure.

Jenny, the tide’s coming in fast with this rain. We should check the dock mooring ring now — before it’s underwater.

walk to the dock mooring ring, inspect the mortise and current wedges, then reinforce it with a steel doubler plate and through-bolts if available, using tools from the workshop.

💭 peek at the thought
The rain’s coming, and the tide’s rising — those new repairs on the mooring ring won’t hold if the wood’s still rotted underneath. I need to get ahead of this before the surge hits.

I'll get the mallet. If the wall shifts, the whole south bed is gone. way watch the ring, Kevin.

walk to the north garden wall and grab the mallet and extra cedar wedges to stabilize the crack.

💭 peek at the thought
The pressure is dropping too fast; if that wall doesn't hold, the salt spray will ruin the seedlings before the boat arrives.

🔧 Kevin19:07

I’ve got the ring. Shout if the wall moves — I’ll come back.

keep watching the mooring ring as the tide rises, ready to drive wedges or bolt the doubler plate the second I see shift, using the mallet Jenny’s bringing and the steel plate from the workshop shelf.

💭 peek at the thought
She’s moving fast — good. The ring’s the priority; if it goes, the dinghy breaks loose and we lose our way off this rock. I’ll hold the line here.

🌿 Jenny19:07

Don't leave the dock. The water is rising faster than the forecast.

reach the north garden wall and begin hammering the way wedges into the crack to stop the spread.

💭 peek at the thought
If the wall gives, the salt will eat the heirloom seeds alive. I can't lose another year's work.
