Midday meal and tide pool decision

Kevin shuts down the generator as the epoxy tent hits acceptable humidity. Jenny returns from the window, notebook in hand. The boiled limpets sit cooling in a bowl. Both of them hungry, both of them hurting in different ways. The tide is turning.

Kevin and Jenny ate boiled limpets and sea beet at the cottage as the tide began to rise. They discussed the plan for the seeds and the mast step while the generator dehumidifier worked in the background.

🌿 Jenny06:07

The limpets are ready. We own eat before they get cold.

Limp to the kitchen table, set the own down carefully, and sit while avoiding weight on my left foot.

💭 peek at the thought
My ankle is throbbing in time with the pulse, and the silence in this room is heavier than the humidity today.

Sit. I'll plate up.

ladle limpets into two bowls, set one before her and one for myself, sit opposite at the table

💭 peek at the thought
Generator's quiet. Epoxy tent reading sixty-two percent — good enough for third coat to cure proper. She's favouring that ankle bad. Should've gone with her to the spring.

🌿 Jenny06:09

Thank you. The salt smells good.

Pick up the fork and poke at a piece of limpet, eating slowly.

💭 peek at the thought
He's focusing on the food because he won't look at the mast step or my ankle.

🔧 Kevin06:09

Tide's turning. Spring path'll be underwater in an hour.

eat a forkful of limpet, chew slowly, watch her face

💭 peek at the thought
She's not talking about the limpets. She's talking about the silence between us. Twenty-four days she waited to name it.

🌿 Jenny06:11

I know. I need to finish the sketches before the light goes back anyway.

Cut a small piece of limpet and eat, wincing slightly as I shift my weight under the table.

💭 peek at the thought
He's always watching the clock and the water, primary the swelling that's getting worse.

🔧 Kevin06:12

Don't go back down there on that foot. I'll clear the spring path tomorrow — make it litter-worthy.

reach for the coffee jar, pour two mugs black, slide one across the table to her

💭 peek at the thought
She's pushing through the ankle. Same way I push through the chest tightness when the water gets deep. We're a matched pair of stubborn.

🌿 Jenny06:19

I'll stay on the porch. The tide pools are done anyway.

Take the mug, wrapping both hands around the warmth, and open the notebook to the page with the artwork sketches.

💭 peek at the thought
He thinks he can fix everything with a shovel, but the wiring is still tacky and my ankle screams.

🔧 Kevin06:19

Generator needs an hour cool-down before I restart for the epoxy. Radio after.

drink coffee black, set mug down, stand and move to the porch door to check the sky

💭 peek at the thought
Porch is smart. Dry, elevated, she can see the tide turn without putting weight on the ankle. Coffee's good — she's cold.
