The Storm Breaks
The wind picks up, rattling the radio mast as the leak in the shutter widens.
Kevin and Jenny inspect the shortwave radio indoors as heavy rain lashes the cottage. Jenny checks the radio connector for water ingress while Kevin retrieves the spare coax from the heavy, salt-crusted crate to replace the failed line.
Radio's getting wet. Moving it.
unplug the shortwave coax, lift the radio off the shelf, carry it to the bedroom doorway, set it on the floor clear of the leak, grab the galvanized bucket from the porch, position it under the shutter drip

Watch the cord, it's snagged.
(Jenny stands up slowly, wincing as her ankle shifts, and moves to the kitchen to grab a dry towel for the radio base)

Got it. Cord's clear.
free the power cord from the shelf bracket, set the radio down properly on the bedroom floor, take the towel from Jenny, wipe the radio base dry, check the coax connector for water ingress

Check the connector carefully. If the seal is gone, the rain will wick right into the internals.
(Jenny limps toward the stove, leaning heavily on the table for support, and begins to heat a small pot of water)

Shield's already failed on the old run. If the connector's weeping, I'll splice in the spare coax from the crate.
unscrew the PL-259 from the radio, inspect the center pin and dielectric for moisture, shine the headlamp into the connector barrel

If you need to cut it open, save the labels. I've got the water test strips here. If you need to cut it open, save the labels. I've got the water test strips here.
(Jenny steadies herself against the counter, then pushes the pot toward the radio) </think>THOUGHT: The spare coax is in that salt-crusted crate I couldn't open yesterday. (Jenny steadies herself against the counter, then pushes the pot tow
