← Day 382

Apart — Kevin at the dock, Jenny at the north cliffs

Approaching Front

Kevin is at the dock while Jenny is on the north ridge cliffs.

Kevin spends the afternoon reinforcing the dock integrity and checking the Yanmar's mounting as the pressure continues to drop. Jenny explores the north ridge to document sea beet variations and gathers samples for the notebook before the tide turns.

🔧 Kevin — alone at the dock

You tighten the mooring lines on the dinghy. The swell is beginning to increase.

🔧 Kevin15:42

Kevin — check the bow line chafe guard, re-seize the stern spring with sail twine, hang both fenders over the gunwales, then walk back to the cottage and secure the porch tarp batten strips before the wind shifts.

💭 peek at the thought
Swell's picking up faster than the barometer said it would. Need the bow and stern lines tight, chafe gear on, fenders out — if the supply boat comes in two days she'll need a berth that hasn't chewed through her own lines.

🔧 Kevin15:46

Kevin — walk up to the cottage, check the generator storm lashings on the porch, tighten the radio mast guys at the three anchor points, then drop the shade cloth corners and lash them to the oak stakes before the gusts tear it.

💭 peek at the thought
Wind's backed to the northeast and freshened. Cloud ceiling dropping. This isn't the front the barometer warned about — it's the dirty edge of something bigger pushing down from the north. Two days to the supply boat, maybe less if she runs before it. Need the generator tied down, the radio mast guyed, the garden shade cloth either battened or struck.

🔧 Kevin15:50

Kevin — check all four cottage shutters dogged tight, verify the water tank overflow pipe runs clear, confirm the ditch bag's clipped to the dinghy forward eye, then walk the garden wall top to bottom looking for fresh cracks or movement in the mor

💭 peek at the thought
Shade cloth's down and tied. Generator lashings hold. Radio mast guys sing in the gusts — good tension, no slack. The northeast wind's cold, smells of open water and coming rain. Barometer's still falling. Need to check the cottage shutters, the water tank overflow, the ditch bag clip on the dinghy. And the garden wall — new courses haven't cured long.

🌿 Jenny — alone at the north cliffs

You gather what you can from the tide pools. The first heavy drops of rain fall.

🌿 Jenny15:40

Not yet, give me one more minute.

pocket the limpets into the bucket and hurry back toward the cottage.

💭 peek at the thought
If this infection gets any worse, I won't even be able to hold the seed tin.

🌿 Jenny15:44

Jenny — set the bucket on the table and unwrap the salt bandage from my ankle.

💭 peek at the thought
My ankle is throbbing in time with the rain, I need those antibiotics.

🌿 Jenny15:48

Jenny — take the antibiotic with a swig of water and reach for the fresh wrap.

💭 peek at the thought
The skin is so angry, I need to clean this before it gets any worse.
