Evening meal prep

Kevin and Jenny meet in the kitchen as the lantern flickers. The smell of salt and damp wood fills the small room.

Kevin cleared the spring intake and ran a gravity-feed hose above the tideline, eliminating silt in the tank. Jenny applied a fresh poultice to her ankle and sketched sea beet morphology in her notebook.

Did you get the filter clear, or is the intake still backed up?

Jenny closes her notebook with a soft thud and rubs the swollen skin of her ankle.

💭 peek at the thought
My ankle is throbbing in time, and the silt in that filter is going to kill us.

Clear. Ran a hose up to the spring above tideline while I was at it. Gravity feed. No more tank silt.

set the kettle on the stove and pull two mugs from the shelf

💭 peek at the thought
The intake's clear for now. Silt'll come back with the next tide. She's hurting — ankle's hot to the touch even from here.

🌿 Jenny20:58

I hope so. I'm tired of tasting grit in every cup of water.

Jenny leans back in the chair, watching the kettle start to hiss.

💭 peek at the thought
Gravity feed is smart, but I hope the hose holds against the next storm.

Water'll be clean tomorrow. You shouldn't have gone down to the spring on that ankle.

pour boiling water over tea leaves in the pot and let it steep

💭 peek at the thought
She's done more than her share today. Ankle swollen, still moved quiet through the woods and the spring. I should've gone myself.
