Evening meal and rising pressure
The tide continues to pull away from the shore, exposing the rocks of the tide pools as the light fades.
Kevin and Jenny ate a quiet supper of potatoes and the last of the tinned mackerel while the wind rattled the cottage walls. Kevin logged the barometer at 1015 hPa rising and noted the NE gusts. Jenny planned to recheck soil pH in the morning and glanced at her seed tin.
Supper smells good.
Pull the notebook from my pocket, flip to the barometer log, and add tonight's reading: 1015 hPa, rising, wind NE gusty. Then set the pencil down and stretch my legs toward the stove.

I'm hungry enough to eat the sketches.

Sketches got more charcoal than calories.
Take the plate she hands me, fork a bite of potato, and chew slow. Watch the steam curl off the fish.

At least the mackerel is better than the paper.
Sit across from him and eat quietly while the wind rattles the stone walls.

Swell's the question. Wind can blow but if the groundswell's down, we can work the dock.
Eat another bite. Set the fork on the plate edge. Listen to the rattle in the walls, the palms thrashing.

I'll check the pH strips again in the morning.
Wipe my hands on my apron and look at the tin of seeds on the shelf.
