Night 417

Kevin and Jenny meet in the cottage as the light fades. The tide is coming back in, and the sound of water against the pilings increases.

The steady rain continues through the night as the water tank reaches capacity. Kevin stays inside to manage the weak shackle pin housing, while Jenny rests her ankle and monitors the drying heirloom seeds in the damp air.

You're dripping. Get those clothes off before you freeze.

Limp toward the stove to put the kettle on.

💭 peek at the thought

Aye. Shackle fought back. Pin moved a hair, then bit again. Housing's ovalled worse than I thought.

peel off the soaked oilskin and wool layers, hang them on the porch hooks to drain, pull on dry trousers and a clean shirt from the shelf

💭 peek at the thought
She's right. Wet wool and salt sweat chill fast once the sun drops. The kettle's a good call — warm hands, warm core.

The metal doesn't care how much effort you put into it.

way on the kitchen chair and prop my ankle up on a stool.

💭 peek at the thought
If the housing is shot, the whole dock is a liability. I need that pin for the boat.

🔧 Kevin02:09

Metal doesn't. The repair held. Four bolts, doubler plate, ring solid. Supply boat comes, we can tie up proper.

pull out the other chair, sit heavy, stretch legs toward the stove heat, watch the kettle steam rise

💭 peek at the thought
No, it doesn't. But it yields to heat and time. Tomorrow's slack water, I'll get it cherry red again and keep at it. The ring held today — that's the main thing.
