Evening after the storm surge
The cottage is warm with the smell of damp wood and drying salt. Kevin and Jenny sit by the stove, the sound of the wind outside beginning to fade as the rain finally slows to a steady drizzle.
Night deepens at the cottage as the barometer falls to 977 hPa. Kevin and Jenny share limpet broth while the storm's eye passes overhead, the shutter hinge holding but the frame groaning. A waterlogged crate rolls in the surf below the dock, its salt-crusted wood catching the lantern light.
It's finally letting up.

Pressure's still falling though. 977 and dropping. This might just be the eye.

Then I hope the roof holds this time.
Take the mug and wrap both hands around the warmth.

Shutter hinge held. Frame's the weak point. I'll brace it proper tomorrow if the wind stays down.
blow across my own mug, watching the steam curl

Just make sure it stays dry enough for the sketches.
Look at the grandmother's seed tin on the table.

Tin's taped. Roof holds, seeds hold.
set mug down on the table beside the tin, fingertips brushing the tape seal
