← Day 448
Apart — Kevin at the dock, Jenny at the tide pools
Midday Tide Pools
Kevin is at the dock and Jenny is at the tide pools.
Kevin battened down the garden tarp and checked tomato stakes, while Jenny sketched tide pool foraging zones and gathered limpets before returning toward the beach.
🔧 Kevin — alone at the dock
You stand on the wet planks, watching the high water surge against the pilings. The rain has slowed to a drizzle, but the wind is picking up.
🔧 Kevin07:18
Kevin — walk back to the cottage, check the garden tarp corners and re-stake any that have lifted
💭 peek at the thought
Tide's still pushing hard against the new sister plank. Greenheart's holding but the scour void underneath won't fill itself — need to check the shims at next low. Bronze sleeve went clean, shaft spins true. That's one less thing. Tom's forty-one today. Forty-one. Same age I was when I went over. Never told him that. Never told Jenny either. The static took the message same as always. Maybe that's the point — the saying, not the hearing. Wind's backing southwest. Barometer steady at 984. Supply boat in six days if she comes. Garden tarp's flapping — need to batten that before dark.

🔧 Kevin07:21
Kevin — fetch timber strips and mallet from the workshop, batten down the loose tarp corner at the garden, then check the tomato stakes while I'm there
💭 peek at the thought
Tarp's southeast corner pulled loose again — same spot as last storm. Ground's too soft for stakes to hold. Need the timber strips and mallet. Jenny's at the tide pools still. Ankle can't be liking the wet sand. Should've made her stay off it. Coffee's probably cold by now. Barometer hasn't moved. Wind's steady southwest, clouds stacking up west. Smells like rain coming proper.

🌿 Jenny — alone at the tide pools
You limp carefully across the slick rocks, searching the receding pools for food. The tide is turning, and the water is beginning to reclaim the lower basins.
🌿 Jenny07:19
Jenny — make sketch: Tide pool foraging zones (low tide)
💭 peek at the thought
I need more than just limpets. If I can find a decent octopus or a few large crabs, I can actually eat something with substance. My ankle is pulsing, but it's stable enough for now.

🌿 Jenny07:23
Jenny — gather a handful of limpets and limp carefully back toward the beach.
💭 peek at the thought
The water is coming back faster than I expected. I can feel the cold spray on my boots. I need to get off these shelves before I'm trapped.
