Back at the cottage.

The rain intensifies from the west, forcing the work indoors or under the tarps. Kevin runs the generator to charge the batteries while the tide remains high, and Jenny monitors the damp heirloom seeds near the generator's exhaust to prevent mold.

Back at the cottage with the rain hammering the roof. The barometer's rising now — 996 and climbing — but the sky's still black west. We got the seeds drying, the stern line holding, the dinghy tied off proper. Garboard patch needs forty-eight hours cure and we've got maybe twelve before the next system if this rise doesn't hold. Should run the Yanmar, charge the batteries proper, check the radio on Tom's frequency like I said I would. Haven't spoken to him in eleven months. The mic's right there.
