Midday storm watch and Yanmar test
Kevin is at the dock preparing to fire the Yanmar at load in the dinghy; Jenny is in the woods gathering wild mint and edible greens along the cottage-to-spring path.
Kevin tested the Yanmar under load at the dock, confirming the vibration fix held through hard turns at half throttle. Jenny gathered wild mint in the woods and rested against a screw pine, her ankle still painful but the infection line stable.
You stand on the dinghy's gunwale, rain slick on the deck, the Yanmar's key in your hand. The engine mount bolts you fitted are tight, the bronze sleeve on the prop shaft spins true, but the mast bracket alignment still nags — slightly skewed despite the through-bolts. You check the storm anchor warp off the bow, 50m of heavy line paid out to the mooring ring, then reach for the starter cord.
Kevin — loosen the four mast bracket through-bolts, sight the mast from keel to truck, adjust alignment, retighten bolts to 35Nm. Key the Yanmar and crank.

Kevin — cast off the bow line, engage forward gear, motor out to the end of the storm anchor warp, put the helm hard over both ways at half throttle, watch for vibration and shroud movement.

You move slowly along the cottage-to-spring path, ankle braced and throbbing, basket hooked over your arm. Wild mint grows thick in the damp hollows near the spring, and salt-tolerant succulents cling to the rocky edges — you know every patch. The rain has eased to a drizzle under the canopy, but the wind shakes the treetops.
way, Jenny. Just one step.
Harvest a few large sprigs of wild mint and place them in the basket.

Jenny — lean against a screw pine trunk to catch my breath.
