A Quiet Stretch

Back at the cottage.

The air thickens as the humidity rises, signaling the coming wet season storm. Kevin and Jenny prepare the cottage for the arrival of the supply boat while monitoring the barometer, which shows a steady pressure drop despite the rising tide.

None.

Melt bronze bar stock in the cast iron skillet on the wood stove, then pour into the dock mooring ring mortise to seat the ring.

💭 peek at the thought
The mooring ring still shifts. Oak wedges helped but didn't lock it. Need to pour molten bronze into the mortise to fill voids and seat the ring solid. It'll hold through winter gales.

Make sure it holds. The boat is heavy.

Eat the last limet off the plate, the salt and protein hitting my dry tongue.

💭 peek at the thought
He's fixing the dock while I'm falling apart. The metal is glowing orange just like my skin.

🔧 Kevin15:37

It'll hold. I'm pouring it hot and full.

Pour molten bronze into the mooring ring mortise, overfilling slightly to account for shrinkage. Let it cool.

💭 peek at the thought
Bronze will shrink as it cools. Need to over-pour slightly, then file flush. The ring must not shift under the boat's weight or the mooring line's jerk.

🌿 Jenny15:38

Check the way again. Is the pressure still dropping?

Stand up and walk to the kitchen, my ankle throbbing with every movement.

💭 peek at the thought
If that ring holds, the boat can actually dock properly. I need that boat to come.
