The supply boat is due tomorrow

The rain slows to a drizzle as the tide reaches its lowest point, exposing the slick rocks beneath the dock.

Kevin and Jenny scout the reef during the low tide to check the heirloom seed tin before the surge returns. Kevin inspects the lower corners of the tin while Jenny struggles to sketch the rising waterline despite her throbbing ankle. The tide returns faster than the chart predicted, forcing them to retreat back to the cottage unfinished.

🔧 Kevin07:47

Kevin — walk to the cottage porch, pick up the tar tin and brush, then head down to the dock south wall

💭 peek at the thought
Low tide. Swell's down. Time to tar the south wall before the boat comes tomorrow — if it comes. Need to check the mix in the tin first.

🌿 Jenny07:47

Watch your step, Kevin. They're slicker than they look.

Jenny tightens the cloth wrap around her ankle and winces as the movement flares the hot skin.

💭 peek at the thought
If he's going to the dock now, he'll see the gap in the planks I couldn't get to today.

🔧 Kevin07:48

I've walked worse. You should be off that foot.

test the first step down onto the exposed reef with boot toe before committing weight, tar tin in one hand, brush in the other

💭 peek at the thought
She's right. The rock's got that green slime that holds water. One wrong foot and I'm in the drink with a bucket of tar. She's favouring the left side hard — the wrap's too tight or the swelling's worse.

🌿 Jenny07:51

I'm fine. way don't drop the tin in the surge.

Jenny leans back against the cottage wall, opening her sketchbook to capture the way the tide is receding from the stones.

💭 peek at the thought
He thinks everything can be fixed with a wrench and a bit of grit. I wish so.

🔧 Kevin07:51

Tin's got a lid. Surge isn't hitting the wall yet.

move along the reef to the south wall base, set the tin on a flat rock above the waterline, pry the lid off and check the consistency

💭 peek at the thought
She's not fine. The sketchbook's a shield. She draws when she doesn't want to talk. The ankle's hot through the wrap — I felt it when I changed the dressing. Four doses left. If the boat's late...

🌿 Jenny08:13

Check the corners. If the mold got under the seal, the whole batch is gone.

Jenny stops sketching, watching him through the drizzle, her ankle throbbing in time with the waves.

💭 peek at the thought
He's too stubborn for his own good, but at least he's being useful.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin08:13

Tar's not seed. But I'll check the seed tin corners tomorrow if the boat doesn't come.

dip the brush, test a stroke on the lowest course of the south wall where the splash hits hardest

💭 peek at the thought
She's talking about the seed tin, not the tar. The vinegar wash helped but mold roots run deep. She knows every seed by heart. The ankle's pulling her attention — she'd catch me looking if I stared.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny08:15

Don't wait until tomorrow. The tide comes back in faster than the chart says.

way shifts her weight, a sharp hiss escaping her teeth as the heat in her ankle spikes.

💭 peek at the thought
If that boat doesn't show up, I'm out of antibiotics and this leg is going south.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin08:15

Chart's wrong. I know. Working up from the bottom — waterline first.

brush tar steadily up the south wall courses, moving laterally along the reef, keeping one eye on the water creeping back toward the tideline

💭 peek at the thought
She's right about the tide. The chart's offshore — here the funnel effect pulls it in thirty minutes early. She's talking seeds but she's watching the water. The hiss wasn't meant for me to hear. Four antibiotic doses. She needs to stay off it. I need to finish this wall before the swell picks up.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny08:17

Keep an eye on the kelp. They're turning dark under the surface.

way presses the pencil to the paper, her hand trembling slightly as she sketches the jagged edge of the rising water.

💭 peek at the thought
He's right about the chart. The island always lies when you're hungry.
