← Day 570

Apart — Kevin at the dock, Jenny at the garden

Waiting for Low Tide

Kevin stands at the dock while Jenny organizes the tools in the cottage.

Kevin inspected the dinghy stern line and watched the crate bob near the dock but made no attempt to recover it yet. Jenny examined her ankle, found the inflammation stable, and ate boiled limpets for strength.

🔧 Kevin — alone at the dock

You watch the water lap against the pilings. The crate is still too high to reach safely.

🔧 Kevin10:11

Kevin — lean against the sound piling, arms crossed, watching the crate rise and fall with each swell

💭 peek at the thought
Tide's dropping but not fast enough. Crate's still riding the swell — another hour before I can get a crowbar under it without risking my back or the jetty. Lines are holding. Barometer's steady. Nothing to do but wait and watch.

🔧 Kevin10:15

Kevin — walk the jetty to the dinghy, crouch to inspect the stern line where it rounds the mooring ring

💭 peek at the thought
Water's down another foot. Crate's kissing the jetty planks now on the troughs. One more drop and I can hook it. Should check the dinghy's stern line while I'm down here — chafed worse than I liked last storm.

🌿 Jenny — alone at the garden

You lay out the pry bar and canvas rolls on the bench. The humidity is getting heavy.

🌿 Jenny10:13

Jenny — make a sketch of the crate's location relative to the dock pilings.

💭 peek at the thought
If I don't get that crate up before the next tide turns, the salt will warp the wood entirely.

🌿 Jenny10:17

Stay there, you damn thing.

unwrap the bandage to check for new inflammation.

💭 peek at the thought
My ankle is throbbing again; I need to check if that red line has moved.
