The overcast clouds finally yield, and the first heavy drops hit the dust on the cottage roof.

Kevin scrubbed salt from the kitchen beams and checked the chimney flashing, leaving the wood to air-dry. Jenny lanced her infected ankle with a sterilized scalpel, draining pus and applying a fresh sea beet-mint poultice, then rested with a cold cloth on her forehead.
