Storm approach

The sky turns heavy purple as the barometer drops further. You and Jenny meet to secure the loose gear.

Kevin tested the Yanmar engine under load in the dinghy to check the vibration fix, though a slight tremor remained. Jenny debrided her ankle with saline and secured the garden tarps against the coming storm. They walked together to the ridge to visit the stone shrine as the pressure dropped.

🌿 Jenny01:51

Check the moorings on the dinghy again, we can't lose her in the surge.

Lean heavily against the porch post, shifting weight away from my swollen ankle.

💭 peek at the thought
The wind is going to howl before the boat arrives, and she's barely standing to help me tie the lines.

🔧 Kevin01:51

Already did. Doubled the stern spring, new warp on the bow with slack for swell. Mooring ring's holding on the oak wedges. She'll ride it.

walk down the porch steps to the garden, checking the shade cloth anchor points as I go

💭 peek at the thought
She's favouring the left side hard. The ankle's not right yet, no matter what she says. Front's building fast — that purple bruise on the horizon means wind before midnight. Dinghy's the only way off this rock if things go sideways.

🌿 Jenny01:53

Watch the tension on the bow line, it gets tight when the tide turns.

Limp toward the garden wall, clutching the notebook to my chest to keep the sketches dry.

💭 peek at the thought
He's so confident in the wood, but the salt doesn't care about his wedges.

🔧 Kevin01:54

Got sail twine in the crate. I'll serve the chock and reset the slack before the turn.

head back toward the dock to check the bow line chafe point and serve it with sail twine

💭 peek at the thought
She's not wrong. Bow line sings when the tide fights the wind. Saw the chafe point yesterday where it kisses the chock. Need to serve it proper before dark.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny01:55

Don't over-tighten it, the surge is deeper than it looks.

Squat by the garden wall, checking the tension on the shade cloth while I catch my breath.

💭 peek at the thought
If those wedges pull, the dinghy is gone and I'm stranded with weeds.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin01:55

Not planning to. Just serving the chafe point. Slack stays as set.

crouch at the bow chock with sail twine, serving the line where it kisses the wood, keeping the existing slack

💭 peek at the thought
She reads water better than she lets on. That surge has been stacking against the north cliffs all afternoon — feels it in the dock planks when a big set comes through. Bow line needs breathing room.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny01:57

Just keep an eye on the way ring when the wind picks up.

way on the low stone wall, rubbing the throbbing in my ankle and watching the clouds.

💭 peek at the thought
He's right about the slack, but the tide is going to test it anyway.

google/diffusiongemma-26b-a4b-it

🔧 Kevin01:57

Watching it. If the wedges start walking, I'll know before she parts.

finish the serving with a tight hitch, stand, and walk the dock planks toward the mooring ring to check the wedges and doubler plate bolts

💭 peek at the thought
The mooring ring's the weak link. Mortise is splintered, held by oak wedges and prayer. Steel doubler plate and through-bolts bought us time, not forever. If the ring goes, the dinghy becomes driftwood.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny01:59

Check those through-bolts on the ring again, make sure they're still solid.

Lean against the dock post, fingers tracing the notebook pages where I sketched the trench pattern.

💭 peek at the thought
That doubler plate is holding the whole thing together, but every second the pressure builds.

🔧 Kevin01:59

Checking now.

grip each bolt head with the 19mm wrench, feeling for movement, checking the nylocs haven't walked

💭 peek at the thought
Four 150mm stainless through-bolts with washers and nylocs through the doubler plate. Finger-tight plus a quarter turn was the call — didn't want to crush the greenheart. If they've backed off, the ring's got play it shouldn't.

nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b

🌿 Jenny02:04

Keep an eye on the south piling too, the rot's eating at the base. Keep an eye on the south piling too, the rot's eating at the base.

Push off the dock post slowly, favoring my ankle, and head toward the cottage door where I can sit. </think>THOUGHT: The bolts are fine now, but when the surge comes, the wood will flex and the whole thing could still slip. Push off the doc

💭 peek at the thought

poolside/laguna-xs-2.1

🔧 Kevin02:04

Bolts are solid. South piling's next.

walk the dock to the south piling, crouch to inspect the rot line at the waterline and the sister plank connection

💭 peek at the thought
The bolts hold — nylocs firm, no play in the doubler plate. South piling's the real worry. Rot line's been creeping up since the last spring tide. Greenheart sister plank helped, but the base is soft.
