Tide and Tension

Kevin kneels by the stone wall, checking the tackiness of the epoxy on the spruce spar. Jenny sits on a flat rock, wrapping a fresh bandage around her ankle while watching the grey tide creep toward the dock.

Kevin waded out to the reef to recover the floating crate. Jenny sterilized her tools and managed the garden seedlings.

Spar needs more time. Coffee's on if you want it.

walk to cottage, put kettle on stove

💭 peek at the thought
Epoxy's still tacky — humidity's holding it back. Another hour, maybe two. She's moving slower today. Bandage clean, no red tracking. Good.

Thanks. I'll be in in a second.

Finish tying the bandage tight, then limp slowly toward the cottage.

💭 peek at the thought
Coffee sounds like a lie I can believe in for ten minutes. My leg is pulsing—it feels like a second heart is beating in the swelling.

Kevin — walk back to garden, pick up crowbar, head for dock

💭 peek at the thought
She's favouring the left side more than yesterday. Tide's coming in faster than I'd like — crate'll be under water in twenty minutes if I don't move.

🌿 Jenny05:26

Kevin! The tide's coming in—don't get pinned on the lower planks.

Lean against the doorframe, watching him walk away.

💭 peek at the thought
He can't just leave it. He's going to fight the tide with a crowbar and a prayer.
