Pre-Squall Calm

Jenny sits on the porch with her ankle elevated on a blanket, watching the sky grey over. Kevin checks the tension on the generator storm lashings as the wind begins to pick up from the salt air.

Dawn breaks under a thickening cloud layer as Kevin and Jenny prepare the cottage cottage for the coming weather. Jenny assesses her ankle while Kevin checks the water levels and the supply boat's approaching arrival.

💭 peek at the thought
Wind's backing southwest. Gale force eight by evening if that fragment was right. Generator lashings are tight, but the tarp over the seed tin on the porch is flapping — needs another batten before it tears.

💭 peek at the thought
She's right. The mast takes the full fetch off the southwest. The insulator repair held last week, but the coax entry at the deck gland is the weak point — tape degrades fast in salt and UV.

💭 peek at the thought
The coax gland is just a clamp, but I filed that spare insulator myself last month. Still feels solid.
