Morning Day 682
The overcast clouds remain low as the tide begins to turn. The smell of damp earth and salt air is strong over the garden beds.
The air is heavy with humidity under the overcast sky as the tide begins its slow crawl up toward the north slope. Kevin works on the path side of the garden wall, using the trowel to check for hollows caused by the seepage from the greenheart triangle, while Jenny tends to the seedlings, her ankle throbbing every time she moves across the damp soil.
Kevin — walk the garden wall north end, probe the mortar joints with the trowel tip

Be careful, Kevin. The vibration is shifting the loose stones.
Wince as I shift my weight off my ankle and carefully clear the silt from a tomato root with my fingernails.

Trowel's quieter. I'll work from the path side.
step down onto the garden path, brace against the wall's outer face, scrape mortar loose from the worst joint with the trowel edge

Watch the base. It's already soft from the seepage.
Wipe sweat from my brow with a forearm and stare at the sketch of the sea beet in my notebook.

Noted.
crouch lower, shift weight to the balls of my feet, test the lowest course with the trowel handle — tap each stone, listen for hollows

If you find a hollow, we need to dig the trench deeper right there.
Reach for the water bottle to dampen a patch of soil, my ankle throbbing with every movement.
