The First Squall
The wind picks up suddenly, rattling the leaky shutters. The first heavy drops begin to pelt the roof.
The air is thick and motionless, the humidity clinging to the skin as the pressure holds steady. The tide retreats steadily, exposing the slick rocks of the tide pools as Kevin and Jenny move toward the sea cave to secure the heirloom seeds. The cottage shutters rattle in the slight, heavy breeze, a faint warning of the coming front.
Kevin! The shutters! We need to check the cave entrance now!
stand up quickly, wincing as my ankle flares, and grab the lantern and the radio.

Moving. Grab the seed tin from the porch — I'll get the cave.
stride to the porch, snatch the heirloom seed tin from its weighted spot, jog down the garden path toward the sea cave

The west shutters - they're loose! I need you to secure them with the shims while I check the cave seal!
grab the heirloom seed tin and hurriedly follow Kevin toward the sea cave, my ankle throbbing with each step.

West shutters need through-bolts, not shims. I'll do them after the cave. Go — tide's coming fast.
veer toward the cottage's west side, grab the two 150mm stainless through-bolts and washers staged by the east shutter, start driving the first bolt through the west shutter frame into the stone lintel
