Midnight tide check and antibiotic dose
The tide is at its lowest ebb. Kevin wakes Jenny for her 0200 antibiotic dose, then steps out to the dock with a headlamp to inspect the three replaced planks at the waterline. The sea is loud in the dark.
Kevin inspected the three replaced dock planks and the greenheart sister joints at the south piling at dead low tide, finding them sound with no weeping or movement. Jenny took her second antibiotic dose at 0200 and rested with her ankle elevated, noting the wind picking up from the southwest.
(quiet, hand on her shoulder) Jen. 0200. Dose two.
wake Jenny, hand her the tin mug with water and the metronidazole tablet, wait while she takes it, then pull on boots and grab the headlamp, walk down the porch steps and across the garden path to the dock

swallow the pill with water, wincing as the weight shifts, then lean back into the kitchen chair and pull the wool blanket over my legs, closing my eyes.

Don't stay too long, the wind is picking up.
shift my weight to relieve the pressure on the ankle, listening to the water lapping against the pilings.
