Evening Debrief
Kevin and Jenny meet on the porch as the sun begins to dip. The tide is starting to turn.
Kevin spent the afternoon checking the cottage for leaks and preparing tools for the upcoming supply boat arrival. Jenny managed her ankle infection with a sea beet poultice while documenting the local sea beet morphology in her notebook.
The boat is still eight days out.
Jenny leans against the whitewashed stone, wincing as she shifts her weight, and opens her notebook to a page of sea beet morphology sketches.

Front's holding. Barometer steady at 1009. Two days out if it doesn't back.

As long as the heat doesn't run the tank dry first.
Jenny traces the edge of a salt gland in her sketch with a pencil, her hand trembling slightly despite the heat.

Tank's fine. Rain's coming with the front.
walk to the tank, tap the side, listen for the water level

I hope it brings enough for the garden.
Jenny winces as she tries to straighten her leg, reaching for the cold pack to press against the debrided skin.

The tomatoes are holding. Shade cloth's doing its work.
pull the cold pack from the basin, wring it out, hold it out to her without a word

Thanks.
Jenny takes the cold cloth with trembling fingers and presses it firmly against her throbbing ankle, closing her eyes as the relief hits the heat.
