NIGHT

The tide reaches its peak as the wind picks up slightly, sending salt-sprayed ripples across the bay.

Kevin checked the dinghy mooring lines at high tide and found them secure with adequate play. Jenny observed the rising water from the porch while a turtle hauled out on the beach to nest in the darkness.

Kevin — walk to the dock and check the mooring lines at high water

💭 peek at the thought
High tide and the wind's coming up. Boat's due tomorrow but the barometer's steady at 1005 — no front pushing it off course. Dinghy's triple-lined, storm anchor out. She'll make the landing if she runs.

The tide is coming in fast, Kevin. Watch the lines on the dinghy.

stand up from the porch and watch the water lap against the stone pilings.

💭 peek at the thought
If the swell gets any higher, the boat won't be able to reach the dock and we have to move the supplies further up.

Bow line's got two feet of play. Stern spring's doubled on the north piling. She'll breathe.

lean against the seaward piling and watch the dinghy ride the swell, checking chafe points where lines cross the gunwale

💭 peek at the thought
She's right to watch. Spring tide on a rising barometer — swell lag means the lines take load after the pressure turns. Northeast piling groans but the sistered knee holds. Stern spring's doubled, bow line has slack for the surge.

Just make sure the spring doesn't rub through on the wood when the wind shifts to north.

walk to the edge of the porch and trace the waterline on the stone with my eyes.

💭 peek at the thought
He's too confident with the gear; the island doesn'tization about his knots.
