Low tide check and radio watch
Kevin is at the dock checking the fish trap at low tide; Jenny is at the hilltop scanning for the supply boat and monitoring the shortwave.
The rain lashes down from the west, turning the dock into a slick surface of mud. Kevin hauls the heavy trap ashore, his hands burning against the wet rope as he prepares the midday catch. On the hilltop, Jenny tracks the jagged storm front in her notebook, cursing her lethargy as the humidity soaks the pages.
You stand on the wet dock planks at low water, the tide pools exposed and steaming in the rain. The fish trap sits at the end of the line, weighted with stones. You haul it up hand over hand, the rope biting cold and slimy.
Kevin — haul the fish trap up hand over hand, rope burning cold through wet gloves

Kevin — carry the trap to the cleaning bench, tip the catch onto the wet boards, reach for the fillet knife

You crouch behind the mast base, the shortwave cradled in your lap, volume low. The barometer in your pocket reads 976 and falling. Rain hammers the hilltop grass flat. You scan the grey sea for the boat's funnel smoke, thumb ready on the transmit key.
Come on, you lazy bastard.
pull the notebook from my pocket and sketch the jagged line of the storm front moving from the west.

Jenny — wipe the water off the page with a sleeve and tighten the wrap on my ankle.
