Almost got it seated. Just need to mix the thickened epoxy — wood flour and resin, peanut butter thick.

mix epoxy with wood flour on the scrap board until it holds a peak, then trowel it into the mortise around the ring, seating it true with light taps from the mallet and wiping excess before it skins over
