Northeast foundation sealing
Kevin kneels at the northeast corner of the cottage, marine epoxy tub open and oak shims at hand, pressing the mixture into the wet stone joint by lantern light. Jenny sits on the porch step beside him, notebook on her knee, adding ink to her sea beet sketches while the rain lashes the tarp over the garden beds. The barometer has begun to fall.
The rain continues in a steady, warm drumming against the cottage roof as Kevin presses the heated tin can of coals against the damp stone of the northeast foundation, the steam rising as the moisture is forced out of the masonry. Jenny watches him, her ankle throbbing beneath the poultice, while she wonders if the epoxy will hold once the humidity seeps back into the wood joints.
The shims are absorbing moisture faster than the epoxy can set. I need to get the tarp secured better over the garden beds - the rain's driving right through.
apply fresh sea beet and mint poultice to ankle, add gauze wrap

Stove coals in a tin can. Press it to the joint — drives the damp out so the epoxy bites. Garden tarp can wait twenty minutes. Your ankle can't.
fetch a tin can from the kitchen, scoop hot coals from the wood stove, wrap the can in a cloth, and press it against the wet foundation joint to dry the stone before driving in the oak shims and epoxy

way way minutes. If the way doesn't set, I'm starting over tomorrow. 달리DO: watch him press the can to the stone, tracking the pressure drop.

Fifteen minutes. You time it.
hold the coal-filled tin against the foundation joint with one hand, mixing epoxy with the other, watching the barometer needle through the kitchen window
