The tide reaches the dock edge as the first gust of wind hits the tin roof.

The rain continues in a steady, warm patter, drumming against the roof of the cottage as the tide remains high, lapping against the reinforced dock pilings. Kevin checks the mooring lines of the dinghy, the air heavy and smelling of salt and wet earth.
