The Rain-Heavy Discovery
Kevin and Jenny huddle under a tarp as a warm tropical rain lashes the shore. The tide is receding, exposing the heavy salt-crusted crate they found wedged between the rocks.
The warm rain continues to fall in steady intervals, turning the beach into a slick slurry. Kevin has successfully maneuvered the heavy supply crate from the rocks using the dolly, bringing it just past the high-tide line. Jenny, exhausted and with her ankle throbbing from the effort, leans against the wood to catch her breath, checking the salt-crusted lid for signs of water breach.
Surge sets come every seventh wave. Count loud. I'll pull on the backswing.
walk to the crate with the crowbar and dolly, position the dolly on the seaward side, wedge the crowbar under the crate's landward edge

One... two... three... four... five... six... seven! Now!
Count the waves aloud, squinting through the rain, then brace myself against a piece of driftwood to stay upright.

Kevin — heave on the crowbar as the water retreats, sliding the crate onto the dolly's plate, then shove the dolly landward hard before the next surge

Got it. Get it up past the high-tide line.
Limp forward to help guide the dolly, gripping the side of the crate with shaking hands.

Steady. I've got the weight. You guide.
shove the dolly up the beach past the driftwood line, then drop the crate onto pallet skids and wave Jenny back toward the cottage

I'm fine, Kevin. Just leave it here for a second.
Lean against the crate, breathing hard, and run a hand over the salt-crusted lid to feel for the seal.
