Midday heat

The smell of drying woodsmoke fills the air as the humidity begins to peak.

The rain intensifies from the west, forcing work indoors or under the tarp. Kevin attempts to replace the Yanmar starter cord but the old mechanism is brittle and snaps under tension. Jenny tries to check the heirloom seed tin but finds the high humidity is preventing the poppy seeds from drying effectively.

Mast step's cured. Sail's the problem — still damp. Bend it wet and the reef stitching rots.

Lean the mast against the porch rail out of the spray, pull the sail from the kitchen where it dried overnight, check the reef points by hand for moisture.

Salt spray'll ruin the spruce grain if it soaks. She's right. Mast step epoxy's cured enough — ran a thumbnail over it this morning, no tack. But the sail's still damp from yesterday's humidity. Bend it wet and the stitching'll rot at the reef points.
