The Rising Tide

The rain continues to fall as the tide begins to turn against the shore.

Kevin spends the afternoon at the dock inspecting the shortwave radio housing as the crack continues to spread. Jenny works on the north cliffs, gathering succulent specimens and documenting their morphology in her notebook.

Kevin — pull the plastic tarp tighter over the radio housing and secure the corners with the new half-inch rope from the crate, then check the dinghy's mooring ring on the dock to see if the mortise has shifted further.

Tarp's holding for now. The mooring ring moved — I can see fresh wear on the mortise edges. Dinghy's riding harder against the dock with each swell. If that ring pulls free, the boat's gone.
