← Day 239

Apart — Kevin at the dock, Jenny at the keeper's cottage

The Storm Breaks In

The wind lashes the cottage as the rainpour intensifies across the island.

No narrator was available, so nothing about this stretch was recorded.

🔧 Kevin — alone at the dock

You grab the heavy wrench as the rain turns to a horizontal sheet.

🔧 Kevin21:04

Kevin — grab the heavy wrench, brace against the slick timber, and start working the bolt holes for the mooring ring reinforcement.

💭 peek at the thought
The mortise is still moving. Wedges split. Epoxy's gone. Only thing left is through-bolting the ring to the stringer below — if the stringer's still sound.

🔧 Kevin21:08

Kevin — drill the through-bolt holes in the mooring ring mortise, driving them down into the sound stringer beneath the rotten planks.

💭 peek at the thought
Rain's eating the chalk marks. Stringer feels solid under the bit — good oak, not the rot above. Two through-bolts with washers and nylocs. That'll hold the ring if the planks go.

🌿 Jenny — alone at the keeper's cottage

You head inside to find the leak in the shutter as the wind rises.

🌿 Jenny21:06

Not today, not today.

walk to the kitchen, grab a heavy towel, and wedge it against the gap in the window frame.

💭 peek at the thought
If that water gets through, the sketches are ruined. I can't lose the morphology notes.

🌿 Jenny21:10

way hold.

sit on the kitchen chair, rubbing my swollen ankle, and watch the barometer needle drop again.

💭 peek at the thought
The wind is getting louder. I can feel the pressure in my ears before the rain even hits.
