DAWN - Steady Rain

The rain shows no sign of slowing, and the barometer continues to drop as the tide reaches its peak.

Kevin performed an incision on Jenny's infected ankle to drain the accumulated pus. He cleaned the wound with saline and applied antibiotic cream before wrapping it loosely with gauze to allow for continued drainage. The pressure in the leg subsided though the wound remains weeping.

Jenny — reaches for the first aid kit and the saline solution, wincing as she shifts her weight.

💭 peek at the thought
If the pressure keeps falling, the storm is going to be significant, and I need to clean this mess before I lose the leg.

Let me redo your poultice. Hold still.

walk to first aid kit, take saline and clean gauze, kneel beside Jenny on porch, gently remove old poultice, rinse ankle with saline, pat dry, apply fresh mint poultice from drying bundle, rewrap with clean gauze and secure lightly.

💭 peek at the thought
The injector nozzle won't budge, but Jenny's ankle can't wait. I need to get that poultice fresh and check if the infection's spreading—then I'll try the impact driver on the nozzle after.

Be careful, it's pulsing.

Tenses her leg as he touches the skin, watching his hands with clinical scrutiny.

💭 peek at the thought
He's trying, but the infection is deeper than just mint and gauze can reach.

I have to drain it again. It's under pressure. Bite the gauze if you need to.

take sterilized scalpel from first aid kit, wipe with alcohol swab, locate softest point of swelling, make small incision, squeeze gently to express pus and blood, wipe away with clean gauze, reapply antibiotic cream, cover with fresh gauze

💭 peek at the thought
Pulsing means pressure building. Heat and red streaks were bad enough—now it's throbbing. I need to lance it again, drain it, then get the antibiotics in her. No more waiting.

🌿 Jenny14:21

way get it over with.

Bites down on a folded piece of gauze, eyes watering as she watches the blood stain the white fabric.

💭 peek at the thought
The pain is sharp and hot, but the relief of the pressure leaving is immediate. I need to stay focused.

🔧 Kevin14:21

Done. Good drainage. Dark—means it needed out. I'll rewrap looser so it keeps weeping.

apply antibiotic cream to incision, pack lightly with saline-damp gauze, wrap with dry gauze loose enough to drain, secure with tape, set used scalpel aside for re-sterilizing, sit back on heels

💭 peek at the thought
Good. Clean drainage. Dark blood mixed with pus—that's the infection leaving. Need to keep it open, keep draining, keep the antibiotics going. She's not making a sound beyond the breath. That's what scares me.
