Mid-morning at the cottage
Kevin returns from the dock as Jenny finishes organizing the heirloom seeds. The barometer reads 989 hPa and rising. The tide is high. They sit at the table with mugs of limpet broth, planning the crate recovery at low tide and the Yanmar load test in the dinghy.
Kevin inspected the dock lines to ensure they were secure before the load test, while Jenny prepared the tools for recovering the waterlogged crate. The tide remains high, delaying the heavy work until 10:30.
Low tide's 1030. Crate first. Then the Yanmar. If the vibration's still there under load, we pull the injector pump — got the spare from the crate. Barometer says we've got a window.

Crate looks salvageable but we'll need the pry bar and the canvas from the rolls - that canopy's beyond repair but the canvas might work for a covering. If the injector pump's shot, I'll need to run the bleed procedure on three cylinders. And Kevin..." (pause, place hand on his forearm) "...let's check the dock lines again before we commit to the load test. Northeast swell's been holding.
walk to window and check cloud cover, then to tool chest to retrieve crowbar and canvas rolls, then sit back down at table to mark injector pump removal sequence in notebook

Dock lines first. Then crate. Pump bleed's straightforward — three cylinders, crack each injector, crank till clean fuel. Got the spare pump in the crate if this one's gone. Canvas rolls are heavy-duty, good for covering. Canopy's toast but the rolls are clean.
set mug down, stand, walk to porch door, scan the dock lines through the window

Right. way lines first. I'll check the bolt integrity on the Yanmar housing before we pull the pump. If they won't bud, I'll have to use the extractor set. We'll move to the crate once the tide's out.
stand up, take the last of the cold broth, and walk toward the loft to check the air-drying heirloom enough packets

Housing bolts are metric. 10mm. Two with damaged threads, one we recovered from the bilge — threads cleaned up okay. Extractor set's in the bottom drawer. Penetrating oil's been soaking the injector threads since yesterday.
pull on oilskin jacket, grab crowbar from porch hook, step outside toward dock

Good. The extractor's there, and the penetrating oil's done its work. But I don't trust those bolts to hold under the load test. I'm marking the torque specs in case we need to re-drill the housing. The recovered bolt's threads are clean, but I need to verify the thread pitch matches.
walk to the workshop table and open the notebook to the Yanmar section, then retrieve the micrometer and thread pitch gauge from the tool chest to verify bolt specifications before heading to the dock

Tide's dropping. Crate'll be dry in twenty. Meet you at the dock.
walk down the path to the dock, test each mooring line by hand as I pass, check the bronze sleeve on the prop shaft spins true

I'll be there in two minutes. I'm just grabbing the gauges.
grab the micrometer and thread pitch gauge, then head out the door toward the dock.
