Midday at the Shore

The tide continues to fall, exposing more rocks near the dock line as Kevin and Jenny prepare for the next set of tasks.

Kevin retrieved the medical kit from the cottage to treat Jenny's infected ankle at the dock. He cleaned the wound with iodine and performed a successful incision to drain the infection. Jenny held the headlamp steady while he worked as the pressure continued to drop.

🌿 Jenny01:21

Pass me the antiseptic, Kevin. I need to see how deep it went.

Pick up the scalpel and begin to debride the infection on my ankle.

💭 peek at the thought
The heat is moving up my leg; if I don't cut this out now, I won't be able to reach the seeds.

Antiseptic's gone. Used the last on the poultice. Medical kit's on the porch shelf — might have iodine or saline left. Sit down first. Let me look.

walk to the cottage porch and retrieve the medical kit, then return to Jenny at the dock

💭 peek at the thought
The antiseptic bottle's empty — used the last of it on the poultice. Need to check the medical kit, but I'm not letting her debride without proper cleaning first. Hands still trembling from the crate haul.

🌿 Jenny01:23

I don't have time for a sit-down, the barometer is dropping. way give me the kit.

Sit on the edge of the dock and prop my leg up on the dinghy hull.

💭 peek at the thought
He's always so cautious when my leg is literally throbbing. I can feel the pulse in my shin.

🔧 Kevin01:23

Here.

hand her the medical kit and crouch beside her, pulling out the iodine bottle, sterile gauze, and saline vial to set on the dock planks

💭 peek at the thought
She's right about the barometer — 996 and falling means weather moving in. But she's not cutting on herself with dirty tools and no proper antiseptic. The kit's got what's left.

🌿 Jenny01:25

Hold the light steady. I need to see the area before I cut.

Open the iodine and pour it over the wound.

💭 peek at the thought
The red lines are definitely moving today. If I don't clear this out, I'll be stuck in that bed forever.

🔧 Kevin01:25

Headlamp's on the bench. I'll hold this one steady. You cut, I'll wipe.

brace the LED headlamp against my chest, beam aimed at her ankle, and keep the sterile gauze ready in my other hand

💭 peek at the thought
She's going to need both hands for the scalpel. The LED headlamp's on the workbench — better than me holding a mug and a light. But the angle from here catches the wound clean enough if I stay low.

🌿 Jenny01:27

Okay. Don't move the light.

Press the scalpel down and make an incision into the infected tissue.

💭 peek at the thought
It's stinging like hell. I need to get to the center of it before I lose the leg.

🔧 Kevin01:27

Good. Let it drain. I've got the gauze.

press sterile gauze below the incision to catch drainage, keeping the headlamp beam steady on the wound

💭 peek at the thought
Clean cut. Good angle. She's not flinching. The wound weeps dark — old blood and pus, not fresh arterial. That's something. Need to catch the discharge on gauze so it doesn't contaminate the dock planks or the dinghy hull.
