Evening Tally

The flat sky darkens further as the sun dips, and the humid air of the wet season settles heavy over the cottage. Kevin enters, the smell of salt spray and diesel clinging to his clothes.

Kevin spent the afternoon working on the dock's collar plate, using the drill to create pilot holes in the sound wood below the rot-weakened section. Jenny remained on the porch, focusing on her sea beet sketches despite the throbbing pain in her ankle and the rapidly drop in air pressure.
