Midday Low Tide
Kevin stands at the dock, wiping grease from his hands, while Jenny is crouched by the receding tide line.
Kevin's Yanmar starter cord snapped on the first pull, leaving the engine unstarted and the cord frayed. Jenny made it off the tide-pool shelf just as the rising water covered the lower rocks, carrying her bucket of limpets back toward the cottage.
Kevin checks the seals on the injectors he just bled, ensuring no leaks will occur under pressure. The wind picks up through the palms, but the engine remains silent for the moment.
Kevin — walk to the cottage porch, pick up the shortwave handset, switch to Tom's frequency, key the mic

Kevin — secure the painter to the dock cleat with a round turn and two half hitches, brace a foot on the transom, give the starter cord a sharp pull

Jenny works quickly to pry the limpets from the rocks before the tide begins to turn. The sun is high, warming the back as the salt dries on her skin.
Jenny — scrape remaining limpets from rocks, place in bucket with collected seawater, check watch for time to reach cottage before high tide
