Approaching rain front

The flat sky has finally broken into a grey haze, and the first cool gusts of wind blow in from the ridge.

Kevin replaced the cracked shortwave aerial insulator with the spare porcelain unit, taping the join with self-amalgamating tape. Jenny finished her field sketch of the wayx leaf and prepared to head out for the north ridge Carex transect before the light faded.

She's right about the light. Cloud ceiling's dropping fast. Transect up on the north ridge — she'll need two hours minimum to finish the lower terrace and get back before dark. Wind's already picking up. She'll be exposed on that ridge. Should tell her to take the radio. Won't. She'd just say it's dead weight. I'll swap the insulator, then cut the bronze sleeve. Lathe's in the shed. Generator's running — can power the lathe off it. Two jobs before dark if I move.
