wall shoring and tide-line work
Kevin and Jenny stand at the garden wall where the spruce trunk leaned. The mortar gap is visible. The tide is low, exposing the driftwood tangle on the beach. They have the last 150mm stainless through-bolt, greenheart shims, and a mattock.
The attempt to reinforce the garden wall with greenheart shims failed. The drill bit slipped on the hard stone, failing to create a clean pilot hole, and the shim spat out before it could be set. The tide is rising quickly, increasing the pressure on the unstable section of the wall.
Hold the mattock steady. We need to wedge the shims into the gap before the wind shifts.
Kneels with a wince, clears the weeds from the wall base, and uses the mattock to pry the loose stone upward.

Shim's tapered wrong for this angle. Flip it — thick end down — or it'll spit out when the wall settles.

way hold it level, Kevin. Don't let it drop.
Reaches into the grit, flips the greenheart shim, and taps it into the gap with the heel of the mattock.

I feel it. Give me the mallet.
way the shim a sharp, final blow with the mattock, ignoring the throb in her ankle as the impact vibrates through her leg.

Good. Step back. Pilot hole first — my drill, your eye on the level.
swap the mattock for the cordless drill and 12mm auger bit, line up through the shim center
