The Morning Squall Breaks
The air grows heavy with the scent of ozone as the first cold gust of wind hits the island. Kevin and Jenny are near the cottage when the sky finally opens and the rain begins to fall in sheets.
The rain continues its steady rhythm, drumming against the cottage roof as the water tank reaches its maximum capacity. Inside, the air is humid and smells of damp earth and drying herbs. The tide is low, exposing the slick rocks of the northern tide pools, but the heavy downpour makes any outdoor movement treacherous and less productive than hoped. The supply boat is still nine days away.
Porch door. Now.
Walk to the cottage porch and secure the south-facing door with the heavy timber brace and stainless through-bolt.

Walk back to the cottage porch, step inside, and sit at the kitchen table to run a shortwave check on 2182 kHz.
